YORKEYS KNOB BOATING INFRASTRUCTURE
Project Overview
Marino Plant Hire, an Hall Contracting PTY LTD, undertook the construction of a new recreational boat launching facility at Yorkeys Knob for the Department of Transport and Main Roads. This $22.4 million project was designed to improve safety, reduce congestion, and enhance the overall boating experience on the north side of the Cairns CBD.

Harbour Breakwater: Construction of a new harbour breakwater to protect the new facility and ensure safe navigation.
-
Harbour Basin Dredging: Dredging approximately 20,000 cubic metres of material to form the future harbour basin and access channel.
-
Land Reclamation: Using dredged material and imported fill, Marino Plant Hire constructed a reclamation platform housing a large car park.
-
Carpark and Access Road: Creation of a car park with 63 single car spaces and 135 car-trailer spaces, along with a new access road.
-
Boat Ramp and Floating Walkways: Installation of a new boat ramp and floating walkways to facilitate easy launching and retrieving of boats.
-
Utility Installations: Construction of a toilet block, sewer, water supply, CCTV system, and lighting to enhance user convenience and safety.
Marino Plant Hire's Role
Marino Plant Hire played a critical role in the successful delivery of the Yorkeys Knob Boating Infrastructure project. Our contributions included:

Collaborating with Hall Contracting to efficiently manage material for land reclamation.
-
Constructing the reclamation platform and extensive car park.
-
Ensuring timely completion and high-quality standards throughout the project.
Project Impact
The new Yorkeys Knob boating facility significantly improves safety and reduces congestion at the existing boat ramp, decreasing wait times for boaters. This project complements recent upgrades to the Trinity Park/Bluewater boat ramp, offering enhanced facilities and better access for the boating community.
Completion and Opening
Completed in early September 2023, the new facility opened just in time for the September school holidays and the Black Marlin fishing season, providing a much-needed boost to local recreational boating activities.
