HSA JOINT VENTURE: EDMONTON TO GORDONVALE BRUCE HIGHWAY UPGRADE
Project Overview
Marino Plant Hire was the primary plant supplier for the Edmonton to Gordonvale Bruce Highway, Cairns southern access corridor stage 3 upgrade (Tier 1 Project), a landmark project valued at approximately $535 million. This upgrade aimed to deliver significant safety improvements along the busiest two-lane section of the Bruce Highway between Brisbane and Cairns, spanning a 10.5 km stretch.

Highway Duplication: Upgrading and duplicating all existing two-lane sections to four lanes, enhancing traffic flow and safety.

Service Roads: Construction of new service roads to support local traffic.

Rail Relocation: Relocation of 4.5 km of Queensland Rail line and the construction of two new active level crossings.

Cane Rail Relocation: Relocation and construction of 8.8 km of cane rail to support agricultural operations.

Extensive Work Hours: Over 200 million hours of work involving more than 300 local suppliers and contractors.

New Intersections: Development of a new intersection and upgrades to two existing intersections.

Local Road Upgrades: More than 8.9 km of local roads upgraded to improve connectivity.

Bridges and Cycleways: New road and rail bridges at Wrights Creek and Stoney Creek, a cycleway bridge at Collinson Creek, and 10.4 km of cycleway.

Drainage and Pedestrian Facilities: Installation of 27 km of drainage and three new pedestrian crossing facilities, including a pedestrian overpass.

Rail Track Upgrade: Realignment and upgrade of 4.5 km of the Queensland Rail North Coast Line.
Marino Plant Hire's Role
Marino Plant Hire played a crucial role in the project’s success. MPH contracted a large fleet of heavy machinery including 3D GPS equipped excavators, large trucking fleet and managed numerous subcontractors on site. Our team handled all facets of the earthwork’s stages, including:

Our fleet of trucks, including body trucks and truck and dogs, facilitated the importation of over a million tonnes of gravel and the export of unusable spoil, ensuring the project stayed on schedule and within budget.
