CAIRNS WATER SUPPLY
ROAD ACCESS RECOVERY

Project Overview

In the wake of Cyclone Jasper, while Far North Queenslanders were initially relieved by minimal damage, subsequent tropical weather patterns caused significant impacts on local roads and infrastructure. Over two meters of rain fell on the range, resulting in severe landslides and disruptions. Lake Morris Road, providing access to vital water supply catchments, treatment, and pump stations, was heavily affected.

Key Project Features

  • Landslide Clearance: Marino Plant Hire worked alongside Cairns Regional Council to clear numerous landslides that blocked access to essential infrastructure.

  • Timely Response: Our operators, machinery, and trucks ensured that affected areas were cleared promptly, restoring access and functionality.

  • Collaborative Effort: Close collaboration with geotechnical advisors enabled the achievement of stabilisation outcomes, ensuring safe access.

Marino Plant Hire's Role

Our team at Marino Plant Hire played a critical role in the recovery and restoration of Lake Morris Road. Key activities included:

  • Clearing landslides and debris to restore access to water supply catchments and treatment facilities.

  • Working with geotechnical advisors to stabilise the affected areas, ensuring long-term safety and accessibility.

  • Planning and preparing for future works to further stabilise the region, protecting the fragile wet tropics forests from excessive damage.

Project Impact

The restoration of Lake Morris Road was crucial for maintaining access to essential water supply infrastructure. Marino Plant Hire's prompt and efficient response ensured that these critical areas were made safe and accessible again, supporting the region's recovery and resilience.

Future Works

Ongoing and future works will focus on further stabilising the affected areas to prevent future damage and ensure long-term safety. These efforts will help protect the delicate ecosystems of the Wet Tropics forests, balancing infrastructure needs with environmental preservation.
